My name is Bernie Brinkmann & I am the MD of STAHLKOFFER Ltd. I have always owned BMWs & ride up to 20,000 miles a year in the UK & throughout Europe. It was on one of my many European travels that I realized how important well-designed, strong, practical water/dustproof motorcycle luggage needs to be.

STAHLKOFFER are manufactured in Birmingham from top quality 2mm aluminium and are professionally TIG welded. They also come complete with frames which locate straight on to the existing BMW mountings

StahlKoffer Pannier fittedI was not happy with the design of BMW panniers (particularly the massive storage space loss with the near-side pannier having to accommodate the exhaust pipe). So I designed aluminium panniers and frames for the R1200GS/R1150GS/R1100GS & R850. By increasing the width of the near-side pannier frame the pannier now hangs on to the frame and sits “proud” of the exhaust pipe, thus giving the owner a “full pannier”.

The off-side pannier is designed slightly bigger so that it can store a full-face helmet. As a result you end up with just over 100 liters of luggage space (more than adequate to store two people’s luggage on a three-week camping trip).

I also realized that when traveling you might want to get something out of the top-box or panniers so the design is such that the lids can be simply & quickly unlocked & removed – even if camping-gear etc is already strapped to the lids.

The pannier frames have been so designed that they utilise the existing location points on the BMW frame. & pannier fitting could not be simpler & takes only minutes.
